What this is

The Dive Bell reads public ocean data — swell, wind, rain, tide, cloud — and scores diving conditions at named sites. When a site’s conditions meet its published threshold, subscribers get a message. It is free, it is a personal project, and it sells nothing.

What it is not

The bell describes conditions. It does not certify safety. It cannot see rip currents, boat traffic, your gear, your training, your buddy, or your lungs. It has never been in the water.

Every dive decision is yours. Check the water with your own eyes before you enter it, and turn the dive whenever something feels wrong. The bell will still be there tomorrow.

Forecasts are wrong sometimes — ours included, and we publish how often. Use the bell as one input among many: your own look at the water, local knowledge, and your training always outrank it.

No warranty

The service is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. Data comes from third parties (NOAA, national buoy networks, weather models) and may be late, wrong, or missing. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any injury, loss, or damage arising from use of the service or from any dive undertaken after receiving a message.

Messages

SMS is opt-in only: nobody receives a message who did not text the bell first. Reply STOP to any message to end it, or HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Details on the SMS page.

Fair use

Don’t resell the alerts, don’t automate abuse of the number, and don’t represent the bell as a safety authority. Access may be ended for any of the above.

These terms may change; the current version always lives at this address. Questions go through the project’s public issues, where the whole method is open to read.
